B-29 DOC & P-51 Gunfighter Reschedule Tour Stop in Allentown, PA
The B-29 DOC History Restored Tour, featuring two iconic World War II-era aircraft – the B-29 Superfortress DOC and P-51 Mustang Gunfighter – scheduled to arrive in Allentown this weekend (May 21-25), has been rescheduled to September 17-20. The schedule change is due to ongoing aircraft maintenance that has delayed the start of the 2026 tour season for both historic warbirds, along with weather forecast concerns for the Allentown area this weekend.
“As part of our ongoing focus on operational safety and aircraft reliability, two of DOC’s four engines have been undergoing detailed inspection and maintenance work since December,” said Josh Wells, chief executive officer of B-29 DOC. “One engine was successfully reinstalled on the aircraft in April, while repairs on the second engine are still being completed by our engine maintenance partner and are expected to conclude later this month. Although we originally anticipated launching the 2025 tour season in April, the extended maintenance schedule has required additional testing and preparation to ensure DOC is fully ready to resume flight operations safely. As a result, we have made the decision to move the Allentown event to September.”

The tour event at Lehigh Valley International Airport (ABE) in Allentown, which has been rescheduled for late September, will still feature B-29 DOC and P-51 Gunfighter. DOC is one of 1,644 Boeing B-29 Superfortress bombers built in Wichita, Kan., during World War II, and one of only two B-29 bombers still airworthy and flying today. P-51Gunfighter is a D Model Mustang, and one of the less than 150 of the 15,000 manufactured during the war that remain.
Ride flight passengers with purchased tickets have already been contacted by the DOC and Gunfighter teams individually with rebooking options.
“In addition to our aircraft maintenance schedules, we are concerned about the weather forecast in the Allentown area for the coming weekend,” said Gunfighter Pilot and Tour Coordinator Jeff Linebaugh. “Low cloud ceilings and rain in the forecast create flight delays and cancellations, and frankly, that’s not pleasant for our customers, nor is it safe to fly. Rescheduling the tour stop to a later date is the best option to allow people to enjoy the event and experience these warbirds as the storytellers they are in their mission today.”
Ride flight tickets remain available for both warbirds and are on sale now:
