B-25 “Yellow Rose” to join the Pull A Plane event with warbird rides and kids pull
The B-25 known as Yellow Rose has been added to the lineup for the 2026 B-29 DOC and WSU TECH Foundation Pull a Plane event this week at the B-29 DOC Hangar, Education and Visitors Center.
Yellow Rose will be the aircraft pulled by Pull a Plane kids’ teams during the event, and it will also be available for ride flights Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, Oct. 16, 17, and 18.
“The connection between the B-25 and the B-29 is historic,” said Josh Wells, B-29 DOC chief executive officer. “It was the B-25 via the Doolittle Raiders that delivered the first U.S. and Allied Forces attack on mainland Japan during World War II. Then, a few years later, the B-29 delivered the final attacks that led to the end of World War II with the formal surrender of Japan on Sept. 2, 1945. Having both warbirds on the same ramp for people to see ties these stories together.”
Yellow Rose is operated by the Central Texas Wing of the Commemorative Air Force and is based in San Marcos, TX. Ride flight tickets for the B-25 are on sale now here.
“Having the B-25 Yellow Rose at our Pull a Plane event is an incredible way to connect aviation history with the next generation,” said Courtney Sendall, WSU TECH Foundation executive director. “Imagine the excitement of kids working together to pull a historic World War II aircraft while helping raise scholarship funds for future aviation professionals. It’s about honoring the past, inspiring young minds and investing in the future of aviation.”
The 2026 B-29 DOC and WSU TECH Foundation Pull a Plane event is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 17, and will showcase teams of adults competing for the fastest pull of B-29 DOC. The kids’ pull event this year will feature teams of kids challenged with pulling B-25 Yellow Rose.
“We’re excited to bring the B-25 Yellow Rose to Wichita and be part of an event that celebrates aviation history while investing in its future,” said Robb Gudgel, CAF Central Texas Wing development officer. “Watching kids come together to pull this historic World War II bomber will be something special, and offering ride flights gives people an even greater opportunity to experience the sights, sounds, and history of this legendary aircraft. It’s a great way to honor the past while inspiring the next generation of aviators.”
Since its inception in 2021, the event has raised more than $600,000 to support both organizations and brought the Wichita community together for a unique, one-of-a-kind event. The event showcases teams of 25 people competing to pull B-29 DOC, an airworthy B-29 Superfortress, the fastest across 25 feet of concrete. Teams also compete to raise the most money for the event.
Team and individual registration remain open via www.PullAPlane.com. A few sponsorship opportunities are also still available.
