B-29 DOC History Restored Tour to land in Cincinnati with P-51 Gunfighter and B-25 Berlin Express

The B-29 DOC History Restored Tour will bring three World War II-era historic aircraft to Cincinnati Municipal Lunken Airport August 28 through September 1, 2025.

B-29 DOC, along with P-51 Mustang Gunfighter and B-25 Berlin Express will be hosted by Cincinnati Warbirds EAA Squadron 18 for the annual Lunken Airport Days event.

DOC, one of only two remaining airworthy B-29 Superfortresses in the world, is one of 1,644 B-29 bombers built by the Boeing Company in Wichita, KS, during World War II. Gunfighter is a North American P-51 D Model Mustang built the same year as DOC in 1945 before it was assigned to the “Mighty Eighth” Air Force in England during the war. Berlin Express was built in 1943 and served stateside as an executive transport during the war.

“The B-29, P-51 and B-25 aircraft tell a compelling story of World War II,” said Josh Wells, B-29 DOC executive director. “The B-25 delivered the first airstrike against mainland Japan when the Doolittle Raiders launched from the USS Hornet in April of 1942. The P-51 tells the story of bomber escort missions by the fighter during both the European and Pacific Theaters of World War II. And the B-29 completes the story of the supremacy of U.S. airpower as it delivered victory for the Allied Forces in the Pacific. Having these three aircraft on the same ramp gives people a unique opportunity to get up close and personal with America’s aviation history.”

All three aircraft will be available for ground and cockpit/ramp tours, as well as ride flight experiences during the event that encompasses Labor Day Weekend.

“The connection between these three airplanes is extremely special and appearing on tour together allows us to share our joint mission of honoring the Greatest Generation,” said Gunfighter pilot Jeff Linebaugh. “These aircraft played a pivotal role in World War II, and we are excited to bring them to Cincinnati to pay tribute to the brave men and women who flew these aircraft to defend against oppression.”

“This joint tour gives warbird fans a unique opportunity to see the aircraft that helped defend freedom and deliver the airpower needed to lead the Allies to victory during World War II,” said Sean Elliott, EAA vice president for advocacy and safety. “We are honored to team up with B-29 DOC, P-51 Gunfighter and Cincinnati Warbirds Squadron 18 to further tell the stories of the Greatest Generation and honor the men and women who have served our nation, and who continue to fight to protect freedom at home and abroad.”

“Hosting this event allows Cincinnati Warbirds to showcase our passion of honoring veterans while inspiring the next generation of aviators,” said Jim Stitt, Cincinnati Warbirds EAA Squadron 18 leader. “Each year, the Cincinnati Warbirds EAA Squadron 18, along with the City of Cincinnati and Lunken Airport, hosts this event to honor the men and women who have served, and who continue to serve, to protect freedom at home and abroad. We are honored to have DOC, Gunfighter and Berlin Express join us this year.”
