B-29 Doc to Bring its History Restored Tour to Newport News, VA

SCHEDULE CHANGE FOR SUNDAY, MAY 5

Due to low clouds and rain in the forecast for Sunday, May 5 in Newport News, VA, schedule changes have been made to the tour stop.

Ground and cockpit tours on Sunday will not begin until approximately 1:15 p.m., permitting ride flight operations are completed.

B-29 Doc is scheduled to fly at 11 a.m., 12:30 p.m., 3:30 p.m. and 5 p.m. on Sunday, May 5 in Newport News.

All attempts will be made to open to the public for ground and cockpit tours between the first two and the second two ride flights of the day. There is a possibility that the ride flight schedule will prevent ground and cockpit tour operations on Sunday, May 5.

SCHEDULE UPDATE FOR SATURDAY, MAY 4

Due to low clouds and poor visibility, the Saturday morning B-29 Doc Flight Experience rides have been rescheduled from 9 and 11 a.m. to 4 and 5:30 p.m.

Ground and cockpit tours on Saturday, May 4 will begin at 9 a.m. and run until 3 p.m.

The B-29 Doc History Restored Tour will land at Newport News Williamsburg International Airport May 2 through May 6, 2024.

B-29 Doc, one of 1,644 B-29 Superfortress aircraft built by the Boeing Company in Wichita, KS, during World War II, will be available for ground and cockpit tours, as well as B-29 Doc Flight Experience rides during the tour stop in Newport News.

B-29 Doc Flight Experience tickets are on sale now at www.b29doc.com/rides. Ground and cockpit tour tickets will be available for purchase on the days of the event at the gate. While the aircraft is on the ground, visitors will be able to climb inside the cockpit through the forward bomb bay to get a look inside one of only two B-29 Superfortresses still airworthy and flying today.

“The B-29 Doc History Restored Tour allows people to step back into history and learn about the aviation legends of our World War II heroes by getting up close and personal with one of only two B-29s still flying today,” said Mark Novak, B-29 Doc chief pilot. “B-29 Doc helps tell the story of those who designed, built, flew and maintained our nation’s Arsenal of Democracy during World War II. And it provides a unique, hands-on and one-of-a-kind look into aviation, which will hopefully inspire the next generation of aviators.”
