B-29 DOC joins performer list for the Dayton Air Show

B-29 DOC will join the list of air show performers at the CenterPoint Energy Dayton Air Show, June 21-22.
B-29 DOC, one of only two remaining B-29 Superfortress bombers still flying today, will fly in the air show and will be available for ground and cockpit tours, as well as B-29 DOC Flight Experiences throughout the show week. The historic aircraft will arrive in Dayton on Tuesday, June 17 and will be available for B-29 DOC rides June 18-22.
“We’re honored to bring B-29 DOC to Dayton, where there is so much aviation history and innovation,” said Josh Wells, B-29 DOC executive director. “It’s a privilege to share this piece of living history with the community and to honor the men and women who built, flew, and maintained these warbirds during World War II. The team at the Dayton Air Show produces a world-class air show every year, and we are honored to be a part of it this year.”
DOC is one of 1,644 B-29 bombers built by the Boeing Company in Wichita, Kansas, during World War II. After serving stateside from 1944 until 1956, DOC was retired to China Lake Naval Station in California, where it sat as a missile target in the Mojave Desert for more than 40 years. It was rescued and shipped back to Wichita, where it took 16 years and 450,000 volunteer hours to restore–a process that was completed in 2016.
“Having B-29 DOC join this year’s performer lineup is truly special,” said Scott Buchanan, Chairman of the CenterPoint Energy Dayton Air Show. “DOC represents not only a remarkable piece of aviation history, but also the dedication and passion of the volunteers who brought her back to life. We’re thrilled to give our guests the rare opportunity to see this flying icon in the skies over Dayton and up close on the ground.”
B-29 DOC Flight Experience rides will be available during the week of the show, including Thursday and Friday, June 19 and 20, and following the air show flying schedule, Saturday and Sunday, June 21 and 22. Ride flight tickets are on sale now at www.b29doc.com/rides. Air show tickets are available at www.daytonairshow.com. When not flying at the air show, B-29 DOC will be available for ground and cockpit tours.
