B-25 “Yellow Rose” joins B-29 DOC on display in Wichita Aug. 19-26

The B-25 known as “Yellow Rose” will be part of the static display inside the B-29 DOC Hangar, Education and Visitors Center in Wichita August 19-26.

“Yellow Rose” is operated by the Central Texas Wing of the Commemorative Air Force and is based in San Marcos, TX (just north of San Antonio, TX). The connection between the B-25 and the B-29 is very special. It was the B-25 via the Doolittle Raiders that delivered the first U.S. and Allied Forces attack on mainland Japan during World War II. Then, a few years later, the B-29 delivered the final attacks that led to the end of World War II with the formal surrender of Japan on Sept. 2, 1945.

Having both historic warbird models on display in Wichita further tells the story of World War II and the legacy of the Greatest Generation.

The B-29 DOC Hangar, Education and Visitors Center will be open Tuesday and Thursday (Aug. 19 and 21) from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., and on Saturday (Aug. 23) from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. for public tours.

B-29 DOC will depart Wichita on Wednesday, Aug. 27, for a scheduled tour stop mission in Cincinnati, OH, where P-51 Gunfighter and B-25 Berlin Express will join DOC. B-25 Yellow Rose will depart Wichita on Friday, Aug. 29, for a scheduled tour stop in Denver, CO.
