B-29 DOC History Restored Tour to bring two World War II-era bombers to Fayetteville

Arkansas Air and Military Museum Event

Two legendary World War II-era bombers—B-29 Superfortress “DOC” and B-25 Mitchell Bomber “Yellow Rose”—will bring the B-29 DOC History Restored Tour to the Arkansas Air and Military Museum, offering an unforgettable, up-close aviation experience for the public. The event is scheduled for Friday, August 15 through Sunday, August 17, 2025.

B-29 Doc

B-29 DOC, one of only two airworthy B-29 Superfortresses in the world, was built in 1944 and is one of 1,644 B-29 Superfortress bombers that were built by The Boeing Company in Wichita, KS. Joining DOC in Fayetteville is the B-25 Mitchell Bomber “Yellow Rose,” one of 10,000 produced by North American Aviation, with only 34 still flying today. These historic warbirds will be hosted by the Arkansas Air and Military Museum, the largest aviation museum in Arkansas.

“We are honored to host B-29 DOC and B-25 “Yellow Rose” at our museum, offering visitors a rare chance to step inside these living pieces of history,” said Aaron Rhames Arkansas Air and Military Museum board member and Rockhill Studios producer. “This event celebrates the legacy of aviation and the bravery of those who served, while showcasing our museum’s commitment to preserving Arkansas’s aviation heritage.”

The Arkansas Air and Military Museum, established in 1986, is renowned for its collection of airworthy historic aircraft, including Golden Age racers, WWII-era planes, and Vietnam-era helicopters. The museum’s all-wood hangar, a former WWII aviator training post, adds an authentic backdrop to this unique event.

YellowRose“We’re excited to bring DOC and Yellow Rose to Fayetteville, where the community’s passion for aviation history shines,” said Josh Wells, B-29 DOC executive director. “These aircraft are more than machines—they are symbols of courage and innovation that continue to inspire.”

Ground and cockpit tours will be available on the historic aircraft when Friday, August 15 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and on Saturday and Sunday, August 16 and 17 when the airplanes are not flying from 12 to 4 p.m. Admission for the cockpit tour event will be $20 for adults, $15 for kids, $3 off for veterans, active duty and first responders. Veterans from World War II, the Atomic era, and the Korean War will be admitted free.

“It’s an honor to stand alongside B-29 DOC at this event and bring two of World War II’s most iconic aircraft together in one place,” said Deena Clausen CAF Central Texas wing leader.  “While DOC represents the might and innovation of the air campaign in the Pacific, Yellow Rose tells the story of the Doolittle Raiders who courageously struck the Japanese mainland in response to the attack on Pearl Harbor and inspired a generation. Together, these aircraft offer a powerful and immersive look at the courage, sacrifice, and teamwork that defined a generation.”
