“We are truly honored to welcome the B-29 DOC and P-51 Gunfighter to Yanks Air Museum,” said Christen Wright, director of Yanks Air Museum. “These aircraft symbolize not only extraordinary engineering accomplishments, but also the unwavering courage and sacrifice of the Greatest Generation. By hosting them, the museum aims to establish a deeper connection between the community and living history with an experience that is both fun and unforgettable.”
The historic warbirds will arrive at Yanks on Monday, September 29, and public access for tours will begin on Wednesday, October 1. B-29 DOC will be available for ground and cockpit tours, while Gunfighter will be available for ground tour viewing. Ride flights will be available on both aircraft, beginning Friday, Oct. 3, and running through the weekend on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 4 and 5.
“We’re excited to bring B-29 DOC back to Chino Airport and to partner with Yanks Air Museum for this special tour stop,” said Josh Wells, B-29 DOC executive director. “Having P-51 Gunfighter join us makes this an even more unique experience, giving visitors the chance to see two of World War II’s most iconic warbirds together and up close. Meanwhile, Yanks Air Museum holds one of the nation’s largest private collections of flying aircraft, from the early days of flight to present-day fighter jets. It’s truly a national treasure.”
B-29 DOC is one of 1,644 B-29 bombers built by the Boeing Company in Wichita, Kansas, during World War II, and among nearly 4,000 B-29s produced overall. DOC is one of only two remaining airworthy B-29s in the world. P-51Gunfighter is a North American P-51 D Model Mustang built the same year as DOC in 1945, before it was assigned to the “Mighty Eighth” Air Force in England during the war.
“Together, Gunfighter and B-29 DOC showcase the powerful legacy of American airpower during World War II,” said Jeff Linebaugh, Gunfighter pilot and ride coordinator. These warbirds, along with the aircraft that are part of the Yanks collection, bring history to life and provide unique perspectives and access that will honor our nation’s history and further tell the stories of the Greatest Generation.”
