Frontiers in Flight Air Show: McConnell Air Force Base Wichita
October 24 - October 25
What to Expect
B-29 DOC will return home to Wichita for the McConnell Air Force Base Air Show, October 24–25, giving air show visitors a unique opportunity to experience one of the world’s only two remaining airworthy B-29 Superfortresses.
During the air show, DOC will be on static display with ground and cockpit tours available. Visitors can:
- Step aboard B-29 DOC and explore portions of the historic aircraft
- Tour the cockpit and see where B-29 pilots and flight engineers operated the massive World War II bomber
- Meet DOC’s crew and volunteers and hear the stories of the men and women who designed, built, flew and maintained the B-29
- Experience Wichita-built history just miles from where thousands of B-29s were produced during World War II
- Capture rare photos of one of the most iconic aircraft in American aviation history
Of the 3,970 B-29 Superfortresses built during World War II, 1,644 were manufactured in Wichita, including DOC. Today, DOC is one of only two B-29s still flying and serves as a traveling tribute to the men and women of the Greatest Generation.
DOC’s appearance at McConnell Air Force Base provides a particularly meaningful connection to Wichita’s aviation heritage. The B-29 helped define Wichita’s wartime manufacturing legacy, while McConnell and the surrounding community continue the region’s longstanding connection to military aviation.
Visitors of all ages are invited to climb aboard DOC, experience the aircraft from the inside and meet the dedicated crew and volunteers who work to keep this important piece of American history flying.
