Due to unscheduled aircraft maintenance, B-29 DOC will not be in Fort Myers, FL, for this portion of the History Restored Tour.

“The safe operation of B-29 DOC and P-51 Gunfighter is our top priority,” said B-29 DOC Executive Director Josh Wells. “Monday and most of the day today (Tuesday), low clouds in Panama City (where the historic warbirds have been since the weekend), coupled with weather along the flight path between Panama City and Fort Myers, led to the delay of Gunfighter’s arrival at Page Field. Meanwhile, during routine inspection following a flight in Panama City on Sunday, our maintenance team on B-29 DOC identified a maintenance matter that will need to be addressed before we can continue DOC’s tour in Florida. The weather in Panama City delayed our maintenance team’s full diagnosis until late this afternoon. This diagnosis has led to the cancelation of DOC’s appearance in Fort Myers, FL as part of the History Restored Tour.

“Meanwhile, P-51 Gunfighter will arrive Tuesday afternoon and will be available for ride flight operations Wednesday and Thursday, October 29 and 30, ahead of its next tour stop in Sarasota, FL, October 31-November 2.”

Two World War II-era aviation icons will land in Fort Myers, Florida, and Page Field as part of the B-29 DOC History Restored Tour, October 27-30.

The B-29 DOC History Restored Tour stop at Page Field in Fort Myers will be a ride-and-flight-only tour stop; ground, ramp, and cockpit tours will not be available. Both warbirds will arrive on Monday, October 27, and will be available for ride flight experiences on Tuesday, October 28, and Wednesday, October 29. Ride flight tickets are on sale now at www.b29doc.com/rides and at www.p51gunfighter.com.

B-29 DOC is one of 1,644 B-29 bombers built in Wichita, KS, during World War II by The Boeing Company, and one of only two of the nearly 4,000 built that remain airworthy and fly today. P-51 Gunfighter was built at North American’s Inglewood, California, facility and was accepted into the USAAF in March 1945. That month, it was shipped to England, where it was assigned to the famous “Mighty Eighth” Air Force.
